It sure is easy to lose traction on progress and begin to slack. Whether it be schedule changes, sickness, or maybe even ringworm, which I have come down with a couple of times since I started training.

When I contract that plague, I tend to take a couple of weeks off of training, mostly for everyone else's sake. I don’t want everyone else to catch the ring of death.

During these times I can feel the progress I have made slipping away. It eats at me, decaying all skills I have recently been adding to my repertoire. I also tend to use it as an excuse to feed my desire for laziness. It doesn’t have to be that way though.

In times like these we can supplement our time off of the mat with productive training on our living room or bedroom floor. Let's face it, we only need a couple of square feet to do some drills. This is where I am now.

Up to now, the Blue Belt Blues has referred to participants reaching only the beginning of their journey in this faithful art, before the award of the first colored belt. Giving up before it got good. But these Blues, these Blue Belt Blues are about realizing adversity and hitting a double leg on those daily challenges.

One more thing; don’t be a buddy fucker. Supplement your training elsewhere, alone, and don’t risk sharing while ailing from the red ring of death.
